Region 10 Newsletter

Greetings from Region 10 VP

Well, it looks like we have skirted another hurricane on the East Coast of Georgia and South Carolina. I pray that our Exchange friends in North Carolina will also miss the winds and rain. Please keep them in your prayers.

Georgia District Board Meeting

I attended the Georgia District Board meeting on Aug. 20th in Macon, Georgia. They held it at the hotel that will host their spring convention so it was nice to get the lay out of the land. The Marriott treated us well with a really nice continental breakfast and a wonderful lunch. I’m happy to report the DP Marty Smith was up and moving around and continues his recovery from back surgery. The meeting was well planned and they accomplished a lot. I talked with DPE, Jack Roberts and he has made plans to attend the Leadership Conference in Toledo in Oct. The Georgia District is planning a strategic planning and educational conference on Sept. 24th. Russ Finey another Regional VP will be with them to lead the day long activities. I will be in North Carolina on the same day to work with them.

North and South Carolina District Events

South Carolina will hold its first Board meeting of the year on Sept. 17th at the Newberry Exchange Club building on Lake Murray. I am planning on attending. I have talked with DPE Robert Spagnolia and he already has his ticket to go to Toledo in Oct. as well.

The North Carolina District will have a one day Educational Conference on Sept. 24th and I will be working with Katie Smith another Regional VP to hold sessions on leadership, growth, and new club building. We have a lot planned for the one day conference. Dan Wakely, NC DPE is also planning on coming to the Leadership Conf. in Toledo so it will be nice to be with each of these guys.

Happenings in your District

I would like to visit as many clubs as possible in each of your districts. If you know of anything eventful, let me know and I’d like to try to come. I was invited to attend the Albany Exchange Club’s 75th anniversary on Sept. 23rd, but won’t be able to go since I’ll be in NC.

Our newest Partner at the National Level

Darkness to Light, www.D2L.org which is a Charleston, SC, but International organization that works for the Prevention of Child sexual abuse is now one of our choices under the Prevention of Child Abuse. Their Stewards of Children training program is outstanding. This program is a must program for all Exchangites, Churches, Schools, CAP centers, YMCA, YWCA or any agency that touch children. It is also very cost effective. Go to their web site to learn more about Darkness to Light. This partnership will be much like the one we signed with the American Red Cross that the Statute of Responsibility last year.

Thoughts on a Region 10 Get-together

WE are still planning this, do you have a date that works for you, let me know.

At both the Mid Winter and at the National Convention we talked about having a Region 10 Convention or at least a Get-together. I want

to make this a goal for us this year. Since SC is in the middle, I’d like to throw out the idea of having a meeting in Feb. 2012 here in Charleston. My thought is to have each of the District Presidents and President Elects and their spouses to come to Charleston in Feb. I am a member of the Isle of Palms Exchange Club and we have a club building that we can use. We would be pumped up from Mid-Winter and ready to plan. What do you think? I need a weekend in Feb. that would work for everyone. Send me a date(s) that would work for you and we’ll go from there. I will work on getting a place for each of you to stay in Exchangite homes so the expense will not be great.

Fri. travel day to Charleston

Fri. night we’ll have a cook out at my house

Sat. morning meet at IOP Club Building on the Isle of Palms for planning, fun, and fellowship.

Sat. night a fun dinner somewhere in the area

Sun. morning a breakfast at my house before you depart for home

National Convention in Greensboro 2013

At the National Convention in Detroit I talked with several of you about Region 10 being the host instead of NC at the Greensboro Convention in 2013. Everyone I talked with seemed very interested in the idea and helping the NC District Exchange Club with this project. Let me know your thoughts and we’ll talk about it in when we meet in Feb. North Carolina has some good ideas and it would be fun to help them making the work fun and a lot easier with more hands.

I’ll work really hard to get a newsletter out each month. Please send me anything that you would like for me to put in it such as when you are having a training, board meeting, conference, etc. It would also be nice to have up-coming events in your district so that we can come if we can. Look forward to hearing from you. e
